I’ve been away for quite a while now. I was helping care for my elderly grandmother who needed 24 hour care in the last year of her life. It’s never easy to lose someone even if they’ve lived a long and happy life and its only now, a year on that life is starting to calm down a bit. Both the doctors and nurses strongly believed that Grandma made it so long through her last year because of two things….Manuka Honey and Tea!
Manuka Honey was great for the immune system and helped her energy levels, and the Tea, well, it’s strongly believed by her doctor that it’s an anti-carcinogen which helped to protect against cancer.
In the end they put Grandmas death down to old age (well she was 97 years old). The doctor said based on all the test results that she had had bladder cancer but that Grandma should have died several years before based on her results.
I just put it down to her outlook on life; so positive, full of life, fun and laughter and to enjoy the small pleasures in life especially your family and friends.
As for me, I’m just grateful I was able to be flexible with my time and spend as much time with her as I could and although difficult to see a loved one dying, it was wonderful I could be there and help her as she had helped me through my childhood.
I had over 40 years with Grandma in my life and for that, I am eternally grateful!
